GREG BAYNTON

President, BC Construction Association Vancouver Island

Greg Baynton is the President of the Vancouver Island Construction Association and BC Construction Association Vancouver Island. VICA is one of two partners in BCCA-Vancouver Island, and BCCA VI is one of four regional Associations who make up the British Columbia Construction Association. BCCA VI represents approximately 500 industry members employing 10-15,000 people living and working on the Island.

Greg is a native Victorian and a tradesman. He brings a diverse background with over 25 years experience owning and operating sub-contracting and general contracting firms on the island and on the mainland. During this time he was a member of BCCA and active on Association Boards, industry task forces and committees involved in a range issues from premature building envelop failure to apprenticeship, and industry best practices.

Today, Greg continues his work in the industry representing the Vancouver Island construction industry in the commercial, industrial institutional and multi storey residential sectors with a focus on the challenges and opportunities facing the BC construction industry.

 

KEITH SASHAW

President, Vancouver Regional Construction Association

Keith Sashaw was appointed the President of the Vancouver Regional Construction Association in 2001. In that position, he is the senior staff person of the largest construction association in BC, representing participants in the non-wood frame construction industry in the Lower Mainland Southwest region of BC. Prior to coming to VRCA, Mr. Sashaw has served as the Executive Vice-President of the Electrical Contractors Association of BC (1999 – 2001) and as the Executive Vice-President of the Canadian Home Builders' Association of BC (1985 to 1999). In both organizations he was responsible for the operations of industry associations at the provincial level.

Mr. Sashaw has been active in a number of other areas, serving on numerous Boards and advisory committees for organizations such as BCIT, the Construction Cluster for the Building Opportunities with Business organization, the BCCA Group Benefit Plan, and many others.

 

 

MANLEY MCLACHLAN

President, BCCA

Manley McLachlan is the President and CEO of the BC Construction Association (BCCA), the largest and most inclusive construction organization in the province. BCCA represents over 2000 non-union and union contractors active in all sectors of the industry, but primarily focused on Industrial Commercial and Institutional construction. BCCA members include general contractors, trade contractors and suppliers, large and small, from all regions of BC.

Prior to taking the position at BCCA in March 2004, Manley managed the Saskatchewan Construction Association (SCA) for nine years and is highly regarded as having expanded and solidified their influence. In particular, he has significant experience dealing with construction safety, aboriginal involvement within the industry, and education & training for construction trades. Manley has also been a strong supporter of innovation within the industry. He introduced and promoted the implementation of information technology solutions for his membership. In addition, he led SCA's ‘Project Cornerstones', a groundbreaking restructuring initiative designed to address change across the industry. Prior to working in the construction association business, Manley spent 9 years as an excavation and trenching contractor and has worked as a sales manager in both the automotive and the communications industries.

Manley is an advocate of innovative human resource programming that provides the all important bridge between people and construction industry employers. Manley is the past industry co-chair of the Vancouver Aboriginal Strategic Employment Partnership Van ASEP Training Society. Van ASEP is a multi- million dollar Education Training and employment initiative focused on Aboriginal Communities on the lower Mainland and the Olympic Corridor.

Under Manley's leadership BCCA has successfully developed the Skilled Trades Employment Program (STEP) which includes the Immigrant Skilled Trades Employment Program, Step for Women, Aboriginal Skilled Trades Employment Program and the EU STEP program. This multi-targeted, multi-million dollar program has assisted over 4,000 people to placements in employment and training in the construction sector.

Manley is an ex-officio director of the Council of Construction Associations, Canadian Council for Innovation in Construction and is a committee representative to a number of Canadian Construction Association national committees including the Human Resource and Research and Innovation committees. Manley is the Chairman of the Asia Pacific Gateway Skills Table.

Manley has actively contributed to his community, serving as fund raiser and representative for numerous not-for-profit organizations such as the United Way and the Canadian Diabetes Association. Manley holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Saskatchewan.

 

ROIS RIZZO

Chief Financial Officer, Houle Electric

Serving nearly 10 years with Houle Electric, Rois directs all financial aspects of the company including bonding, insurance, shareholder reporting and managing the accounting department. Rois is also responsible for establishing and implementing growth-driven financial policies for the company, ensuring continued quality of service as the company expands.

As a Certified Management Accountant, Rois served as a Senior Accounting with KPMG in their Business Advisory Services Group, as well as Controller for Budget Rent-A-Car and Assistant Controller for Palmer Jarvis. Rois also operated his own independent consulting company before joining Houle Electric.

 

 

SYLVIA BRYANT

Controller, Bryant Electric Ltd.

Sylvia has been with Bryant Electric for 26 years. She became a shareholder in 1996 and is currently responsible for all financial aspects of the company, as well as administration of both the Prince George and Terrace offices.

Over the years Sylvia has served as a director for both the local and provincial construction associations, and as Chair of the Prince George Construction Association and BCCA-North.

 

 

 

 

TIM DOUCETTE, B.A. (hon), C.A., C.P.A.

Vice President – Finance, Pacific Group of Companies

Tim Doucette has been the Pacific Group of Companies’ Vice President – Finance and CFO since 2002. As CFO, Mr. Doucette is responsible for leading the Pacific Group’s finance function which includes overseeing acquisitions, corporate strategy, partner relations, treasury activities, tax planning and accounting.

Before joining Pacific, Mr. Doucette was the CFO for the Jim Pattison Group’s Out of Home Media Division, Canada’s largest outdoor advertising company, headquartered in Toronto. Prior to that, Mr. Doucette was Manager – Financial Planning and Taxation with GTE Directories Corporation.

Mr. Doucette holds a BA, with honours, from Simon Fraser University and is a Chartered Accountant in B.C. and is also a C.P.A. through the State of Illinois.

Tim is involved in numerous construction industry organizations and is currently the Chair of the BC Construction Association Group Benefits Plan and is a past director with the Road Builders and Heavy Construction Safety Network.
